HOW WE DO IT
Our Approach
A model for ending homelessness
The Constellation Project is an example of how multi-sector collaboration can be used to address complex social issues. The project aims to ensure every person in Australia can access safe, secure and affordable housing.
The Constellation Project’s model of working together is a powerful tool for addressing complex social issues. It ensures that solutions are grounded in the lived experience of those affected, and harnesses the strengths and experience of diverse groups of people building trusted relationships between the different organisations and sectors involved.
Since 2018 the Constellation Project has laid the foundations for innovation in the housing space. The Constellation Project has used a social change model to develop solutions to tackle housing affordability and homelessness.
The founding organisations identified four principles that would guide their work
- We learn from people with lived experience and incorporate their insights and skills across all of our work
- First Nations knowledge and perspectives are critical to achieving our vision
- We co-design solutions to homelessness with our cross-sector network and those with lived experience
- We prioritise solutions that provide safe, affordable, accessible, appropriate and secure housing for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
Volunteer teams
Bringing people together to developing smart solutions
We use a collaboration model to discover and accelerate solutions to housing affordability and homelessness.
Our role is to look for the gaps in all the work that is happening on homelessness and housing in Australia, and to seek out the ideas that need development or acceleration. We do this through bringing the NFP sector, business, academia, and governments, with people who have had lived experience of homelessness, to explore the housing and homelessness landscape and identify practical solutions to progress.
Our approach
Develop solutions with those who know
Lived experience voices
and insights are core to our approach to systems change.
Constellation aims to make sure that the diverse insights of people with lived experience are present at all levels of our organisation, from the board, through the executive team, into the project teams and across all our events and workshops.
All First Nations projects are led by First Nations People
